On the Late News the other night I heard a reporter refer to dog fighting as a “sport.”
The American Heritage Dictionary describes “sport” as:
1. An active pastime or diversion
2. A specific diversion, as athletics or hunting
3. Light mockery
4. One known for the manner of his acceptance of rules or a difficult situation
5. One who lives a gay extravagant life
6. Amorous dalliance, lovemaking
7. To play, frolic
8. To joke or trifle
9. To display or show off
10. Of relating to, or appropriate for sports – to amuse – divert
How could any decent, human being call “dog fighting” a sport. Rather, it is an unusually cruel, highly inhumane treatment of other breatheing beings. May Michael Vick and his buddies experience the same beatings on the other side.
