Community Colleges make students take High School classes based on the results of their placement test. If the county high schools have not taught this work to the students, and some of my grandchildren are telling me that this is the case, then the county should pay the tuition fees, because they failed in their job! This really makes me mad. Are the Community Colleges making the placement test so hard that high school students can’t pass it, ergo the colleges make extra money for tuitions? Or, are our public schools so bad that much of what should be taught is not being taught? I vote for the latter. I have one high school graduate who does not know how to give change from a dollar; another who didn’t know Hawaii is a state; and a third one who mailed to letters recently with her address in the center of the envelope and the address where she wanted the letters to go in the upper left hand corner of the envelope. Yep. They both came back to her, and she was floored……. OMG again.
